Wisconsin Agricultural Exports Increase in 2012

December 2nd, 2012 | Posted in: News

When we sit down to dinner, rarely do we think about where our food comes from or how the production of food matters to our local economy. In this era, however, most of us think about the economy more often than usual. So here’s some good news — according to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Wisconsin is on a record-breaking pace for exports! During the first three-quarters of the year, Wisconsin has exported $17.4 billion worth of products.

In fact, Wisconsin exports during the first three quarters of 2012 grew faster than total U.S. exports. Wisconsin exported 6.4 percent more in the first three quarters of this year. In comparison, U.S. growth was 5 percent.

And let’s not forget agribusiness — Wisconsin exported more than $2.2 billion of agricultural products during the first three quarters of 2012, an increase of four percent from 2011. And did you realize that Wisconsin ranks twelfth in the nation for the value of agricultural exports? Last year, we ranked seventeenth — so 2012 has been a year of remarkable growth.
